18-hole Championship Golf Course

Old Thorns magnificent championship golf course ranges across the rolling hills of the North Hampshire countryside and offers fantastic views at every turn. Mature trees, natural springs, lakes and testing bunkers give real character to the course which, while kind to the less experienced golfer, holds some surprises for the player who enjoys a challenging round in a classic English landscape.

The par 72 course has an illustrious history - plans for its development started in 1976 and came to fruition in 1981 when Peter Allis, Honorary President of the Club and Dave Thomas completed the construction of the course they had painstakingly designed. A year later its official inauguration saw Seve Ballesteros, Jack Nicklaus, Isao Aoki and the then reigning Open Champion, Bill Rogers, play a competitive four ball.

Today the course is meticulously maintained to the very highest standard. Players have at their disposal a fleet of golf buggies and all your golfing needs are taken care of in the spacious, well stocked PGA approved Pro Shop. The Estate also offers practice facilities including a putting green, driving range and a resident Professional offering lessons and clinics.

I just wanted to send a big thanks for your help with our booking at Old Thorns. We had a brilliant weekend and would truly recommend anyone staying here. We can't wait to book another one and would look forward to staying at the Old Thorns in the near future.

Old Thorns Hotel, Golf and Country Estate is tucked away in 400 acres of rolling Hampshire countryside. It is one of Southern England's most picturesque country house hotels and offers luxury accommodation, relaxing Health Spa and fantastic cuisine combined with an outstanding 18 hole championship golf course designed by Peter Alliss. Originally a 17th century farmhouse and now a cosy hotel that retains much of it's original charm, Old Thorns offers the idyllic setting for any occasion.

There is nowhere better to ease away the stresses of the day or to get into shape than in the Health Spa at Old Thorns. Take a dip in the heated indoor swimming pool with its floor to ceiling windows, looking over mature gardens and manicured grounds. Gently unwind in the sauna or steam room, enjoy an invigorating workout in the well equipped gym or play a few sets of tennis. If a little personal indulgence is more your style, top up your tan in the fast tanning solarium or pamper yourself with a massage, body therapy or beauty treatment.

This premier resort has recently invested £20 million pounds in a major re-development programme that now includes new large family sized bedrooms sleeping 4 adults combined with new luxury penthouse apartments which provide the perfect escape for parties of any size.
